This is a starting point for the ones who decide to start doing mountain activities andit is a must for all the lovers of Patagonian peaks. The Lanin Volcano with its perfect conic shape invites people to dream and enjoy a two-day hiking excursion, which offers technical components that increment with the use of crampons, and an incredible 360°view from its iced peak.
Called “Patagonian Roof” due to its outstanding height, this volcano is an undoubtful mountaineering challenge. Framed in the unique landscape of the Wind MountainRange (La Cordillera del Viento), with its hot springs, geysers and smoky craters, theDomuyo Volcano presents us with a gradual ascent with some on-the-way campingsites and all the characteristics of a classic mountain expedition.
Attempting to a 5000 m a.s.l summit implies entering into a zone of great challenges. Cerro Vallecitos located in Cordon del Plata offers an ascent technically simply, but with all the high mountain spicy elements in the Andes.
The movement of the borders of the tectonic plates gave, as a result, in this part of the mountain range, a great number of volcanoes which are covered in snow in southern winters, and allow excellent ascents in spring and summer.
This programme invites you to ascend three of them to observe this great “land of volcanoes” from the heights, and in one of them see inside the crater.
The three ascents are semi-technical, in which the use of crampons is necessary.
The Ruca Pillán or Villarrica is one of the most active volcanoes of the AmericanContinent and it is located in the Araucania Region in Chile. Its original name isRuca Pillán, given to it from the Araucanos in their native language (Mapudungun –Mapuche), means “Spirits’ house”. An impressive natural surrounding can be seen allalong the excursion: centenary forests, the bluest lakes and giant glaciers that cover partof the volcano. Every once in a while, its crater with a diameter of 315m allows us toobserve the 1200° magma and amazing lava explosions.
