Patagonia Norte - Argentina

The Lanín National Park is the perfect spot to practice low-difficulty mountain trekking. As the days go by, we will discover refreshing waterfalls of crystal-clear waters and spectacular lake beaches, always under the watchful eye of the Lanín Volcano, which shows us its different faces and changing beauty. This circuit is perfect for those novel trekkers who want to experience a true Patagonian adventure.

Highlights of the Auquinco Trek
- Trek through the Lanín National Park surrounded by a unique natural environment.
- Cross crystal-clear streams and enjoy beautiful waterfalls.
- Conquer the Achen Ñiyeu Volcano and enjoy its privileged views of the southern slopes of the Lanín Volcano.
- Spend the night sleeping in the woods.

Day before the trek
The previous afternoon we will have a briefing with the mountain guide in charge of the ascent. We will check the equipment, discuss the final details of the program, and clear any doubts that the group members might still have.

Day 1 Lake Verde - Rincón de Los Pinos
We will drive very early in the morning from San Martín de los Andes to Lake Verde. From Lake Verde, we will begin our trek through the woods, which we will leave behind as we enter a region of black sand, which slowly changes into a landscape similar to that of a high-altitude desert. After crossing it we will encounter the Portezuelo waterfall and Achen Ñiyeu Volcano, on whose slope a beautiful slag heap emerges.
Around noon we will reach the highest point of the tour (1500 m.a.s.l.) where we will stop for lunch. We will then begin the descent through a different valley full of Festuca grasses. After wading across the quiet but cold waters of the Auquinco River several times, if the weather is good, we will be able to stop to enjoy the fresh water and a well-earned rest. In this valley, it is common to find traces of red deer and wild boar, and with a little luck, we might see some of them. In the afternoon we will enjoy the beauty of the Araucarias, a very old and emblematic tree of the Lanín National Park.

Day 2 Rincón de Los Pinos - Puerto Auquinco
We continue our trek towards the south through the Auquinco Valley. Shortly after starting our walk, we will cross the river one last time, before beginning a continuous descent towards Lake Lolog. While walking through these woods you can usually see birds like the Pitío, a nice little woodpecker that is quite difficult to spot; the Giant Woodpecker and the Huet - Huet, among others birds. In the afternoon we will arrive at Lake Lolog, where we will be able to cool off. We will spend our last night at a wild camping site.

Day 3 Puert Auquinco - Puerto Arturo
After enjoying a good breakfast by the lake we will begin our last day of the program.
Today we will skirt Lake Lolog through a lush, fresh, and humid forest. This trail offers amazing views towards the south of the crystal-clear waters of the lake at our feet.
Two hours after the beginning of our trek we will arrive at Playa Bonita. If the weather conditions are good, this is a great spot for a break and a refreshing dip. After lunch, we will continue to Puerto Arturo, where our transfer will be waiting to drive us back to San Martín de los Andes.
